Minister of Internal Affairs Meets with Families of August 2008 War Victims

Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia visited the memorial for the policemen killed in the line of duty, located in the courtyard of the Ministry building. He was accompanied by families of the service members killed during the 2008 Georgia-Russia War – ten years ago this week. Together, Gakharia and family members paid tribute to the memory of the fallen.

During the August 2008 War, 14 personnel from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and 5 Coast Guard members were killed. The Ministry provided twice the annual financial compensation to the 19 families of the deceased MIA service members. At the event, the days of August 2008 were once again remembered. The children of the deceased employees listened to stories of the heroes’ lives from their parents, companions, and friends.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs also congratulated of one of the children of a deceased policemen on his birthday with symbolic gifts.
