Harley-Davidson to Launch Electric Line
Famous motorbike manufacturer, Harley Davidson, keeping with the times, has announced the launch of a line of electro-motorcycles. The new two-wheelers will come under the common brand ‘Revelation,’ and the company expects to use it to win a youth audience.
Harley Davidson has been working on its electric motorcycle for four years, and next year the new vehicles will be launched.
“We will release a large number of EVs [electric vehicles], which will vary in size, power and price. And we will create a completely new client base by doing so,” said Michel Cumbier, the company's Chief Operating Officer.
The flagship of the new model line will be the electric motor cycle LiveWire, which will debut in 2019. The output of two less powerful and more affordable motorcycles is scheduled for 2021 and 2022.
In addition, Harley Davidson intends to expand production to neighboring segments. The company plans to develop an electric scooter, an electric motor, an electric bike and even an electric car, unusual for a renowned motorcycle brand. The company plans to spend about $150-180 million until 2022 on the new EV platfor,.
The exact specifications of the new electric motorcycles and Harley Davidson scooters have not yet been made public. However, it is known that the working prototype of the LiveWire concept has a mileage range of 100 km without recharging. If the concept is finalized, this vehicle can be replaced by the already popular Brammo, which exhibited its electronics at the world-famous Isle of Man TT and Pikes Peak International races.
Harley-Davidson is now working on improving the battery of its EV bike, which should be lighter, more capacious and faster to charge.
