Woman Dies After Giving Birth

The Georgian Interior Ministry is investigating the death of a young woman in a Tbilisi maternity hospital.

A 35-year-old woman gave birth on August 10 at the Nino maternity hospital, but two hours after the birth she started bleeding. After deteriorating in health, the patient was transferred to the National Medical Center Gudushauri. Unfortunately, the young woman died shortly after the operation began due to heart failure.

Relatives of the deceased accuse the doctors for the incident. An investigation is underway for "causing death by negligence", which is punishable by imprisonment for a term from 2 up to 5 years.
