Azeri Guard Killed in Accident at Georgian Border Crossing

Yesterday, an unnamed border guard was killed in a vehicle accident at the Red Bridge border crossing between Georgia and Azerbaijan.

The State Border Service of Azerbaijan released a statement saying that the guard killed was a serviceman in the Azerbaijani military.

“A truck was stopped on the Azerbaijani side of the border. When the driver got out to submit his documents for review, the vehicle’s brake system failed, it started moving and crashed into an employee of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, who subsequently died from his injuries,” the statement reads.

The Military Prosecutor Office of Azerbaijan has launched an investigation into the incident. The truck driver is believed to be a citizen of Georgia, driving a truck with Georgian license plates.
