Rape Investigation Underway

Police officers in Tbilisi detained a 51-year-old man on charges of raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter.

The man was detained in July, however, due to the sensitive nature of the case, it was only made public today. The Tbilivei City Court sent the defendant to pretrial detention for the duration of the investigation. Details of the case such as names and location of the incident has not been specified.

The case is now pending under the Article of 'Rape committed against a person less than 14 years of age,' which is punishable by imprisonment for 15 to 20 years.
