Georgia and EU Discuss Regional Development at Tbilisi Conference
On September 21, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia organized an international conference to discuss the latest achievements in and perspectives for regional development policy in the country.
The EU says that regional policy in Georgia is gaining momentum as an important area of cooperation under the Association Agreement and the Single Support Framework 2017–2020, which define the priorities for EU support in Georgia.
During the conference, the results of the country’s Regional Development Programme 2015–2017, as well as the planned program for 2018–2021, were discussed. The participants also reviewed the concept for the EU-supported Pilot Integrated Regional Development Programme, to be implemented in four regions of Georgia – Kakheti, Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Guria.
Supported by the EU, the conference was attended by high-level representatives from the Government of Georgia, the European Commission, eminent researchers and practitioners from Georgia and several EU countries, Ministries, Governors’ Offices, the EU Delegation to Georgia, donor organizations present in the country, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders.
