Fire Burns Warehouse at Eliava Market

A wood materials warehouse was burnt down at Eliava Market in Tbilisi, located in Didube district, on Thursday morning.

The Emergency Management Service reports that area of about 800 square meters has been damaged.

18 fire brigades had been working in the area. The fire has already been localized but fire brigades still remain on site.

“We received the notification at 7 am. 18 fire-brigades were working on the territory. Now there are some pockets left and the works are underway,” Mamuka Kirimeli, Head of the Main Division of the Emergency Management Service, told reporters.

Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs reports that an investigation has been launched under Part 2 of Article 187, which means damaging or destruction of another person’s property.

No one was hurt during the incident.

Last summer, 15 shops at the Eliava Market, selling automobile parts, paints and tires, caught fire. Around 2300 square meters was burnt, which left dozens of people without jobs.
