Number of Divorces up in Georgia
The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) published the 2018 report on demographic situation in the country. The statistics provided in the report cover the year 2017.
According to the document, in 2017, the number of registered marriages decreased compared to the previous year, and divorces increased.
In 2017 the number of divorces has significantly increased. In 2016, 9,939 divorces were registered in the country and by 2017 their number reached 10,222, out of which 7053 divorces were registered in the cities and 3169 in the villages.
In Tbilisi, according to the statistics of 2016, 3 688 pairs were divorced, and in 2017 – 3731 couples decided to end their marriages.
In 2016 25,101 marriages were registered in the country, out of which 14,961 in urban settlements and 10,140 were in rural areas. As for 2017, 23,684 marriages were registered in Georgia, 14,342 in cities and 9,342 in rural areas.
The number of registered marriages has decreased in Tbilisi. In the year 2016, 7304 marriages were registered in the capital, and in 2017 – 6984.
