Tbilisi Public Transport Fails Emissions Tests

The Transport Department of Tbilisi City Hall announced that approximately 200 public marshrutkas (minibuses) and 100 public buses failed government-mandated inspections, which evaluate vehicle emissions and safety standards. The failed vehicles are banned from driving on Georgian roads.

Mandatory periodic technical inspections for large vehicles began in Georgia on January 1, 2018. For all cars, including privately owned vehicles, it will be mandatory to have passed inspection starting January 1, 2019. The cost of inspection for cars is 60 GEL (about $23). In the event that a car fails the test the first time, its owner is given a 30-day period to fix the identified problems. Re-inspection is free.
