Police Arrests Alleged Murderer of 8 Year Old Girl

Police have arrested a 34-year old man in connection to the murder investigation of an 8 year old girl, who was found dead in the central Georgian town of Gori on October 25.

The information was released by Deputy Interior Minister Kakha Sabanadze, who told journalists that the man had been convicted before.

“I offer my condolences to the family. This is a great tragedy for Georgia. A special investigation team of the Interior Ministry and the representatives of Shida Kartli District Police have identified the person, I.N., who has committed this crime. As a result of operative measures and the obtained evidence I.N. is detained,” he stated.

Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs stated an investigation is in progress under Point B, Part II, Article 109 of the Criminal Code of Georgia which indicates murder under aggravated circumstances of a minor or a helpless person knowingly by the offender. 

The teacher of the murdered girl, Meri Mamistvalovi, told the journalists that the police found photos of the child on the cell phone of the suspect.

“It turned out the suspect was following the child and taking her photos,” she stated.

The child disappeared on Friday evening, when she went to her music class. Her parents started to look for her after she did not show up.

The music teacher says she never made it to class.

According to the media, the girl was found with a plastic bag over her head and her hands and feet were bound.
