3,000 Kids Are "Back on Track"
The European Union and the Government of Georgia worked together on the reform of the juvenile justice system. 3,000 children were given a chance to realise and repair their wrongdoings.
On 31 October, the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, the Ministry of Justice and UNICEF will highlight the achievements of the juvenile justice reform in Georgia. The success of the reform can be attributed to the introduction of diversion and mediation programmes for juvenile offenders and of child-friendly approach to children in the criminal justice system. These achievements have been made possible thanks to constant assistance of the European Union since 2010.
The launch event will take place on Wednesday, 31 October, starting at 13.00 in the Hotel 'Rustavi'.
Speakers include:
- H.E. Thea Tsulukiani, Minister of Justice of Georgia
- H.E. Carl Hartzell, Ambassador of the European Union to Georgia
- Mr. Ghassan Khalil, UNICEF Representative in Georgia
- Justice Renate Winter, Team leader of EU4Justice project and Chairperson of UN Child Right's Committee
- Mr. Lado Javakhishvili, Head of Diversion and Mediation Department, LEPL Center for Crime Prevention, Ministry of Justice of Georgia
- Ms. Teona Kuchava, Child Protection Officer, Juvenile Justice, UNICEF
The event will ended up with the official opening of a child-friendly room at Rustavi City Court.
