Discussion on Legalizing Marijuana Cultivation Postponed Indefinitely

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Natia Mezvrishvili, has expressed her frustration with repeated critical concerns over government plans to consider legalizing and formalizing the cultivation of marijuana.

"A number of statements have been made that the consideration of this issue had been postponed for an indefinite term," insisted Mezvrishvili, "It was not considered at yesterday's committee session and it will not be dsicussed today either."

A draft law that would have allowed cultivation for export was introduced in September. "As for the withdrawal of the draft law, four MPs have raised this issue, but withdrawal has its own procedures and they, as well as any government members, are well aware of it. The author of the draft law is the government and if it decides to withdraw the draft law, it will be withdrawn. The issue is not on the agenda and therefore, it is unreasonable to worry about it," said Mezvrishvili.
