Georgian Wine Degustation Held in Japan

Georgian wine tasting was held in Matsuyama, Japan, organized by the wine-producing company “Red Bridge”, where Japan’s famous wine master, Kenichi Ohashi, held a presentation on Georgian wine. Matsuyama is a leading city in the region in terms of wine consumption.

About 60 local wine importers, distributors and restaurant networks attended the tasting.

"I appreciate all the participants who are present at the Georgian wine tasting. Georgia is a homeland of 525 local vine types. Just like in Japanese cuisine, the technology of pitcher winemaking is included in UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list (Qvevri). We will continue Georgian winemarketing activities in Georgia next year," said the wine maestro.

Kenichi Ohashi, considered the "Georgian Wine Ambassador" in Japan, presented seven Georgian wines to local professionals: "Rkatsiteli Superior 2015" (Chateau Mukhrani), "Rkatsiteli 2016" (Orgo), "Green 2015" (Shumi Line "Iberian"), "Green 2016" (winemaking Vaziani line "Makashvili Wine Cellar"), "Saperavi 2016" (Giuaani), "Mukuzani 2014" (Shumi Line "Iberiuli") and "Saperavi 2015" (Shalauri Cellar).

Japan is one of the strategic markets for Georgian wine, where more than 170 thousand bottles of wine are exported, observing a 68% increase in 2018 in terms of quantity compared to the same period last year.
