Two Earthquakes Hit North-Central Georgia

Two earthquakes are reported to have struck Georgia last night. The first earthquake registered at a magnitude of 5.1 and its epicenter was in the village of Martgajina, 14 km southeast of Oni, in the Racha-Lechkhumi region. The second was a 3.3 magnitude quake that hit the village of Drbo, 10 km east of Sachkhere in the Imereti region.  

According to CBS News, an earthquake that registers between 5 and 5.9 on the Richter scale is considered moderate and generally causes slight damage to buildings and other structures. There are about 500 of these around the globe every year. An earthquake that falls between 3 and 3.9 on the Richter scale is considered minor, and there are tens of thousands of these worldwide annually. They may not even be felt by people and rarely cause damage.

No serious damage or injuries have been reported so far.
