Vaziani Military Base to See New US-Georgia Airfield

Georgian Defense Minister Levan Izoria and U.S. General Stephen Lyons announced yesterday that a joint airfield will be built on the Vaziani military bas near Tbilisi.

Funds for the new airfield will come jointy from the US and Georgia. Izoria says that the airfield will support the NATO-Georgia Commission, and plans to establish a new readiness center in Georgia.

In a meeting on Monday together with Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, Izoria and Lyons discussed Georgia-US strategic cooperation the Georgia Defense Readiness Program.

Bakhtadze explained that the project will increase local and international military training opportunities in the country.
