National Library Teams Up with Ministry of Education to Increase Digital Literacy
As part of a push to increase the level of digital literacy among Georgians, a Memorandum of Cooperation has been signed between the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and the National Library of Georgia, signed by Minister Mikheil Batiashvili and Director of the Library Giorgi Kekelidze, respectively.
After the signing ceremony at the National Library, both discussed the fact that is impossible to get a quality education and become a free person without modern, electronic communications and information technologies. Consequently, the National Library's collection, which offers electronic access to books, periodicals, cartographic materials, dissertations, archival documents and other material resources, is essential for increasing public awareness.
Cooperation between the parties will include coordination and promotion of cooperation between the Ministry and the National Library, as well as exchanges of information and sharing experiences on how to create a national digital library. Additionally, the Memorandum facilitates the joint development of digital and audio versions of library holdings, and providing access to the digital library for interested people.
