The Winners of 2018 TVET Award are Revealed

The Week of Skills 2018 was completed with the National TVET Awards Ceremony. At the event, the winners of the National TVET Award 2018 were revealed in four categories - Tamar Gogrichiani (Currently, the Biltmore Cook and students of Ikarosi College) was nominated as the best TVET Student; the teacher of Digital Electronics at Georgian Technical Training Center Ia Mosashvili was awarded the status of the best TVET Educator. As for the 2018 best TVET Institution – Community College Mermisi won the status and the Georgian Railway was named as the best business partner of TVET colleges.

According to Magda Magradze, the CEO of the Millennium Challenge Account- Georgia, a number of forums and Open Days were held within the frames of the Week of Skills aimed at promoting vocational education.

 “I see Georgia’s success and development only through the fundamental reform of the education sector and I think the importance of TVET education should be emphasized during this reform”- Noted Mamuka Bakhtadze, the Prime Minister of Georgia during the TVET Awards Ceremony.

The Minister of Finance, Mr. Ivane Matchavariani; DCM of the U.S. Embassy, Ms. Elizabeth Rood; representatives of legislative and executive governments and public, private and diplomatic organizations attended the event.

Gudavadze-Patarkatsishvili Foundation, the General Sponsor of the event, awarded the winners with special prizes. The winners will travel to Germany through a study trip, where they will have the opportunity to familiarize with the European experience and attend one of the largest TVET Fairs “Didacta, the Education Trade Fair”.

Within the framework of the Week of Skills, during the period of November 5-9 Open Days were held at ten vocational education institutions where new educational programs were presented. With the MCA-Georgia’s $12 Million grant ten TVET institutions were funded. The TVET institutions in collaboration with the private sector created 51 new programs in the fields of engineering, construction, marine, tourism, information technologies, aviation, and agriculture. The above-mentioned programs were created based on the labor market demands in Georgia. The institutions were equipped with up to date laboratories and training simulators.

National TVET Award is the initiative of Millennium Challenge Account-Georgia and is implemented within the framework of the “Industry-led Skills and Workforce Development” project funded by the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation. The Award Ceremony was held for the second time and aims to popularize TVET education in Georgia by showcasing the success stories of TVET colleges, business partners, students and teachers.
