PM Meets Firefighters and Rescuers
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze stated that the government has been developing the Emergency Response Agency, the structural unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, which under its authority carries out nationwide emergency prevention, mitigation and elimination of consequences, coordinates activities and ensures the implementation of martial law during periods of civil defense tasks.
“We have increased the budget for this agency and by 2020, Tbilisi will be serviced with new fire-fighting and emergency rescue vehicles,” he stated.
Bakhtadze noted that material-technical base of the Emergency Response Agency shall be fully upgraded throughout the country by the beginning of 2022, including its vehicles and hardware.
The PM thanked the staff of the agency for the bravery and courage demonstrated during the tragedy in the Ponichala District of Tbilisi recently, which ended in casualties.
"You saved three citizens by putting your lives at risk. Unfortunately, we lost the lives of a mother and her infant. I wish to once again express my condolences to the family of victims and to the entire country for this enormous tragedy. My personal and special attention is invested in the development of your Service,” he added.
