Eco Migrant Families in Tsalka Given Accommodation

79 eco migrant families in Tsalka in the Kvemo Kartli region in southern Georgia have been given new accommodation by the government.

Grigol Giorgadze, the Deputy Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories and the Deputy Govenor of Kvemo Karli, Kakha Kobakhidze, visited the families in Tsalka to hand them the ownership property certificates.

The government purchased housing facilities for those who were forced to leave their homes for ecological or political reasons between 2004 and 2009. However, they only properly began assigning properties in 2015.

Earlier this year, 113 families received new homes in Tsalka, Tetritskharo, Akhmeta, Lagodekhi, Khoni, Lentekhi and Gurjaani due to landslide risk, earthquakes or other natural disasters.

Around 500 families have now been re-homed. The government plans to continue to give eco migrants new homes.
