Anti-Terrorist Center Head: Previous Gov't Cooperated with Chatayev

Head of the Anti-Terrorist Center, Irakli Chimakadze, claims that former United National Movement (UNM) government was cooperating with the terrorist Akhmet Chatayev.

Chimakadze says the previous government brought Akhmed Chataev into the country in 2010.

“The current government released Akhmed Chatayev because he had been detained under the wrong article,” he explains.

When speaking about Chatayev’s last visit to Georgia, during which he was caught in a raid with his group members planning terrorist attacks, Chimakadze says he illegally crossed the green line and spent in Georgia just 20 days.

“We did not let him enter the country. It is proven that he illegally crossed the border. The court discussed this issue… We presented all evidence, including the testimonies of witnesses participating in his transportation,” he stated.

On November 21-22,2017, a special anti-terrorist operation was held by the Georgia’s State Security Service in Tbilisi, which repelled the future terrorist activities of the ISIS member Akhmet Chatayev and his group. One member of the terrorist group was detained, two were killed, and Chatayev detonated an explosive, killing himself. Later on, five more people were detained by the SSS in connection with the case.
