PM Meets with Georgian Diaspora While in Belgium
While in Brussels this week for the EU-Georgia meetings, Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze met with members of the Georgian diaspora community. On Wednesday, the Prime Minister and his delegation presented copies of a new three-volume government textbook series designed for international Georgian Sunday schools to members of the Georgian diaspora in Belgium. The textbooks cover Georgian history, culture, geography, and language.
The Prime Minister’s press office explained that during the meeting, the sides discussed several issues including education and government services available to Georgian citizens abroad. Bakhtadze also shared a new government initiative to create a website to facilitate communication between the government, the private sector, and emigrants. It will also enable Georgians living abroad to access various state programs online.
Currently, 84 Georgian Sunday schools operate worldwide, along with 11 Georgian language schools. The schools serve as many as 3,000 children 6-14 years old.
