NDI to Field High-Level Observation Mission for Runoff Presidential Election

The National Democratic Institute (NDI) announced today the arrival of high-level delegation of short-term observers to observe the November 28 runoff presidential election in Georgia. The mission will build on the work of NDI’s observation mission in the 1st round, as well as the findings of pre-election assessment mission and long-term analysts who have been on the ground since September.

Heading the delegation are: Laurie S. Fulton, former U.S. Ambassador to Denmark; Per Eklund, former EU Ambassador to Georgia; Marija Babic, independent electoral expert; Laura Linderman, Research Fellow at the Atlantic Council; Sarah Waterson, regional expert; and Laura Thornton, NDI global associate and senior resident director in Georgia.

NDI will issue a preliminary statement of its findings, which will be released at a press conference, scheduled for November 29.

The NDI observer mission will conduct its activities in a nonpartisan, professional manner, in accordance with Georgian law and the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation. NDI also will remain in close contact with Georgian domestic monitoring groups and other international observer delegations throughout the electoral period. The work of this mission is made possible with the support of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
