Former US President George H.W. Bush Dies at 94
Former US President George H.W. Bush passed away on Friday. He was 94 years old. He served as president for one term, from 1989-1993. Bush Sr. “left behind a significant impact on American politics and policy,” says Vox’s in memoriam, noting that “He was both the last president of the generation that served in World War II and one of the last politically influential pragmatists in the Republican Party.” His presidency was marked with bipartisan legislation and bargaining, and a strong foreign policy hand in the Persian Gulf War and the end of the Cold War.
His son, George W. Bush, was president of the United States for two terms, from 2001-2009.
His wife of 73 years, Barbara Bush, passed away in April at the age of 92.
The former president will lie in state at the US Capitol Rotunda from Monday December 3, with the public invited to pay their respects from 7:30 pm Monday until 7 am Wednesday morning. Funeral services will be held at the National Cathedral. On Thursday, his body will be buried in the Bush family plot at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library in Texas, alongside his wife and daughter.
