EU Pledges a Third of its Energy Will Come From Renewables by 2030

By 2030, the EU will have to get 32% of its energy from renewable sources, the Council of the European Union declared yesterday. The Council adopted the new targets in a revised directive on energy efficiency and a directive on renewable energy.

Passing this legislation was the final step of the clean energy package presented by the European Commission in November 2016. Three legislative texts – the two directives and a governance regulation – are scheduled to enter into force by the end of December.
