The Free Medicine State Program to Be Expanded

The Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia – David Sergeenko has stated the Free Medicine State Program is planned to be expanded and medicines for epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease treatment to be included in it.

Within the scope of the State Program, the socially vulnerable population of Georgia, pensioners and individuals with disabilities are able to buy particular drugs for chronic and cardiovascular diseases at a halved or symbolic price.

There are 23 drugs included in the list of the Program and it is planned to expand it up to 35 medicines. However, Sergeenko has claimed the government aims to include at least 60 medicines in the Free Medicine State Program.

Medication for epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease treatment will be added to the list in 2019.

The State Program started functioning in July 2017, and since then has been expanded twice. More than 41 000 people have already benefited of it.
