Government to Provide Free AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria Treatment
The Georgian Minister for Healthcare has announced that the Global Foundation sponsorship for the treatment of AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria will be replaced by state funds.
Davit Sergeenko, Georgia’s Minister of Health and the Executive Director of Global Foundation have signed a memorandum on the new policy. Sergeenko says the memorandum represents a banking agreement stating the government of Georgia will provide free treatment for AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for the next three years.
According to the minister, the sponsorship schedule is dynamic stating “the portion of the state finance increased from the Global Foundation is being reduced. After three years, the state will fully provide the management for the three programs.”
Funds for the treatments have been provided by the Global Foundation since 2006.
