EUMM Awards Gori Children as Part of 16 Days of Activism
On December 13, the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia hosted eleven prize-winning schoolchildren and their teachers as part of the annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign to end violence against women, initiated by the United Nations. The campaign begins each year on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on December 10, Human Rights Day.
For this year's campaign, EUMM organized a children’s drawing competition on the theme of “Family: the Way I See It.” Students in grades 1-12 from several public schools located in the Gori municipality participated in the competition.
11 winners were chosen based on the votes of EUMM staff. The winners were invited to EUMM headquarters in Tbilisi for a day of fun activities and given an award certificate by Head of Mission, Erik Høeg, who thanked the children for their artwork, presented them with small gifts, and posed for photos. Afterwards, EUMM staff enjoyed lunch together with the students and their teachers and brought them to the Experimentorium science museum in Tbilisi.
