Flu Cases up in Georgia

Director of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) and Public Health Amiran Gamkrelidze stated that during the last 2 weeks, respiratory diseases have been increasing although the flu epidemic has not spread yet.

He noted that the most cases of flu were detected in children. Gamkrelidze called on the population to address a doctor in case of flu symptoms.

“As you know, viral infections, including flu, are active during winter… Flu is mostly underway without any complications, but we have serious complications in 25-30% of cases, especially in children, the elderly and in people with chronic illnesses. That's why we call on people to take preventive measures,” he said.

Paata Imnadze, Deputy Director of the NCDC noted that influenza morbidity is about 195 cases per 100,000 people.

“There is no any threat of epidemic situation. Influenza morbidity is about 195 cases per 100,000 people, while the epidemic rate is 400,” he said.
