Georgia Expresses Sorrow over Deadly Tsunami in Indonesia
Georgia has expressed its deep sorrow over the hundreds of casualties caused by the disastrous tsunami on the island of Java, the Republic of Indonesia, on December 22, which left 429 locals dead and at least 1,485 injured.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveys its condolences to the in families of the victims and wishes a fast recovery to those who were injured. In this moment of grief, the Ministry wishes strength and unity to the Government and People of Indonesia,” the statement of the Georgian Foreign Ministry reads.
Yesterday the death toll of the Saturday’s devastating tsunami was up to 381 people, however, in just a day, it reached 429 people.
The disaster destroyed 882 houses, 73 hotels, and villas. More than 430 boats were also damaged.
On Monday, Indonesian officials confirmed that the tsunami had been triggered by a chunk of the Anak Krakatau volcano slipping into the ocean.
Nearly 16,082 people have been displaced from the disaster areas while 154 are still missing.
