Georgian Government to Subsidize Natural Gas Price
Natural gas, the kind used to heat homes and light stoves throughout Georgia, will get a tiny bit cheaper in 2019.
Natia Turnava, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, announced yesterday at the Georgian Energy and Regulatory Commission's meeting that the government will begin subsidizing gas prices throughout the country.
In Tbilisi, for subscribers of KazTransGas, the rate will drop by 0.014 tetri to 46.139 tetri per cubic meter. In areas served by SOCAR, the price will decrease 0.011 tetri, and in other areas by 0.012 tetri.
Turnava explained that the decision was made after a long period of work within the government. "Of course, there was some expectation that gas consumer tariffs should be increased, even if the state and private companies are intensively investing in Georgia's gasification, but the state has chosen to make this investment not reflect on the tariff. And the population will be fully subsidized by the state," said Turnava.
