DOG Organization Vaccinates and Sterilizes 500 Dogs in 2018

DOG Organization Georgia, one of the country's most well known, respected, and professional dog rescue organizations, shared in a post on their Facebook this week that the organization vaccinated and sterilized a total of 500 dogs in 2018. The organization runs a program called TVNR (Trap, Vaccinate, Neuter, Release), funded by Mayhew International and supported by the Agrarian University Veterinarian Clinic and the New Vet Clinic.

Since 2015, DOG has sterilized more than 1,200 street dogs in Georgia. The organization operates largely on a volunteer basis, running its TVNR program along with shelter and adoption services.

In a March 2018 interview with GEORGIA TODAY in honor of World Spay Day, veterinary surgeon Ana Metskhvarishvili spoke about DOG's work in Georgia. She explained that it is important to neuter and spay dogs in Georgia because "Population control is great way to prevent such high numbers of animals on the street, living in poor conditions, falling victim to different diseases, or suffering from human violence...Stray population control is also very important from a disease control point of view. A lower population means fewer animals can transmit diseases such as rabies. All of the animals that have been part of our program are all vaccinated against this and other standard canine infectious diseases. With dedicated work from all sides (wild life, agricultural animals etc.), we are working towards eradicating it."
