Flu Continues to Spread in Georgia

Georgia's National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has released its latest data on this flu season. Currently, 276 people in every 100,000 are suffering from the flu. Last week, that number was 221/100,000. Official 'epidemic level' is 500 cases per 100,000.

The majority of these flu cases are H1N1 - swine flu. Children and the elderly are the most susceptible to the virus.

NCDC Director Amiran Gamkrelidze predicts that flu cases will level off in the next week due to the holiday season. As people take time off from work and school, they are reducing their physical contact with others, which spreads infection.

Symptoms of H1N1 include fever, coughing, sore throat, body aches, headaches, and fatigue.
