Gov't to Buy Double Amount of Anti-flu Vaccines for 2019-2020
The Government of Georgia plans to purchase double the amount of anti-flu vaccines for 2019-2020, compared to the present season. The given information has been announced by the head of the National Disease Control Center, Amiran Gamkrelidze, in an interview with Netgazeti.
Gamkrelidze stated that in 2018-2019 the supply consisted of 41 000 vaccines, which was double that offered by the government the previous year. However, in autumn of 2019, it is planned to purchase 80,000 anti-flu vaccines. It has also been claimed that the majority of the present supplies have already been consumed.
The issue of access to anti-flu vaccines has gained greater significance due to the spread of acute respiratory illness H1N1 in the country, which has claimed more than 12 lives in the past weeks.
The World Health Organization considers October-November to be the best time period for the vaccination.
