Carsharing to Begin in Tbilisi

Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze has announced that a carsharing initiative will come to Tbilisi.

The scheme will allow customers to drive cars in Tbilisi whenever they like, using an app to locate and unlock the car. Similar schemes are already operating in many European cities.

“All European cities are using so-called carsharing. Any person can hire a car parked in a location, pay a certain amount of money, and enjoy it for the whole day or for as long as he or she wants,” said Kalkadze on Facebook.

300 electric cars will soon be put in various locations around the city. The cars will be a Nissan Leaf, Reno, or Smart. “Over time the number in the city will increase and they will be available in every district in Tbilisi,” said Kaladze.

A selection of said cars has already been spotted in Vake outside the iPlus store on Chavchavadze Avenue.

Tbilissians must register with the scheme and download an app to use the car.
