Airbnb to Remove Abkhazia and South Ossetia Listings

The Airbnb booking platform has released a statement confirming they will remove all listings from Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Airbnb allows customers to rent accommodation in 191 countries and more than 81,000 cities. However, they have developed a framework which evaluates how they should handle listings in disputed territories, realizing that their operation could increase tensions.

“In applying the global framework of these disputed territories, Airbnb determined that the existence of the listings in these disputed territories has a direct connection to the larger conflict in the region,” read the statement.

In accordance with this framework, they are to remove listings from South Ossetia, Abkhazia, and settlements in the West Bank.
