Georgian Environmental Agency Publishes Air Pollution Report
On 21 January, the Georgian National Environmental Agency (NEA) tested air pollution in Tbilisi, Batumi, and Kutaisi. The results showed pollution to be mostly within normal levels.
The concentration of nitrogen dioxide and solid particles was found to be too high. “The concentration of nitrogen dioxide observed on Tsereteli Avenue in Tbilisi was found to be 1.4 times higher than the annual average. On Abuseridze Street in Batumi, the NO2 concentration was 1.6 times higher than the annual average" reads the NEA report.
Volunteers also measured the concentration of lead at four locations across Tbilisi. Lead pollution has been a continuous concern for residents in Tbilisi. The results revealed that lead concentration in Tbilisi is below the maximum allowable level and does not pose a health risk.
The NEA is currently developing an online portal so that the public can view real-time information about air quality.
