Stricter Gas Regulations to Be Introduced
The Deputy Economy Minister Natia Turnava has announced that gas regulations will become stricter to ensure the safety of Georgian consumers.
“The gasification [of Georgia] is a priority but it should be developed in accordance with safety standards,” said Turnava.
Gas safety standards have become a top priority in Georgia following last week’s gas explosion in a residential building in Didi Dogomi district in Tbilisi which killed 4 people.
Speaking of the event, Turnava said she hopes that the cause of the tragic accident will be found. She also underlines the need for the best international practices to be introduced to ensure that gas is consumed safely.
Construction and installation requirements for gas companies will become stricter with the aim of providing safer gas. Moreover, the population will be better informed about safe gas consumption.
On 21 January, 2 people died from natural gas intoxication in Tbilisi’s Varketili district during the night.
