IFAD to Send a Delegation to Georgia
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is to send a delegation to Georgia in order to offer the country particular initiatives for the development of the field of agriculture, which is one of the major constituents of the country’s economy. The agreement about the forthcoming projects was achieved by the Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze and the President of the IFAD Gillbert F. Houngbo at a meeting in Davos on January 23.
"The Prime Minister emphasized agriculture's important role. Agriculture accounts for 40-45% of Georgia's employed population, and its share in the country's GDP is 9%. The Prime Minister underscored agriculture's significance for ensuring inclusive economic growth. We plan to send a delegation to Georgia to deepen our dialogue with the Ministers of Agriculture, Finance, and Economy, and next to formulate a concrete offer," the President of IFAD stated after the meeting.
IFAD is an international financial institution and a specialized United Nations agency based in Rome, investing in rural people and empowering them to increase their food security, improve the nutrition of their families and increase their incomes. Since 1978, we have provided US$18.5 billion in grants and low-interest loans to projects that have reached about 464 million people.
