Police Find Round-the-World Cyclists' Bikes Stolen in Tbilisi
Police have found two bikes belonging to cyclists traveling around the world. The bikes were stolen from Tbilisi on 19 January.
The cyclists from the US and England who are spending winter in Tbilisi had traveled thousands of kilometers on the bikes from South-East Asia to Georgia. Thieves stole the bikes from a courtyard in Tbilisi by cutting through the lock.
On 24 January, police informed the pair that their bikes had been found in a village near the Armenian border, 100 km from Tbilisi. The bikes are now safely back in Tbilisi.
“The Georgian police went above and beyond my expectations,” said Nicole, who began her trip in Thailand. “They restored my bike to me and my faith in humanity. "It is a matter of honor," they [the police] said. Georgia, I love you. If this were to happen anywhere else, I don't think such an efficient outcome would come to be.”
Come spring, the bikes will continue to their original destinations. One will travel to Spain and the other to England. You can follow their journeys here and here.
