Speedboat Killer to Stay 3 Months in Georgian Prison

A judge has ruled that speedboat killer Jack Shepherd should stay in Georgian jail for 3 months.

Shepherd, who was on the run throughout his trial in the UK, was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for manslaughter. His victim Charlotte Brown died during a date with Shepherd when their speedboat crashed on the River Thames in London.

Shepherd’s defense lawyers told Tbilisi City Court on January 25 that he should not be extradited to the UK. They claim he was warned during a phone call that his life could be in danger in UK jail.

After evading justice for so long, the British Crown Prosecution Service has said it is “doing everything it can to help make sure Jack Shepherd faces justice through the proper legal channels.”

Shepherd, who has been living and working in Tbilisi since March, told the court “not a single day passes when I don’t think about the passing of Charlotte’s life and the effect on her family.”

Shepherd’s defense team did not challenge the judge’s ruling for Shepherd to remain in custody. Georgian law dictates that he can be detained for up to 9 months before extradition.
