Police Arrest 9 for Drug Offences in Tbilisi
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has made 9 arrests for drug-related offenses, including drug trafficking.
Following a 2-month investigation conducted by the Drug Trafficking and Cybercrime division of the Police force, Police detained 5 members suspected of running a drug trafficking gang and seized various drugs from multiple locations in Tbilisi. Police found around 100 grams of hashish, among other drugs.
The group used the Telegram app and the internet platform Mantanga to sell drugs online.
The detainees, aged between 18 and 32, could face from 8 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs also detained 3 people accused of being drug addicts, a crime in Georgia. They could also face from 8 to 20 years imprisonment or a life sentence.
A further individual was arrested in Tbilisi in possession of 500 ecstasy pills and 4 packets of NTM.
Despite decriminalizing cannabis in 2018, Georgia has notoriously strict drug laws. The 9 individuals arrested await their trials.
