PM Promises Efforts are Being Made to Combat Air Pollution
Last week, Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze presented the government's new Green Policy on atmosphere protection.
"The green policy of our government is the long-term vision of the country's development and new lifestyle, which means that we take care of nature and share responsibility, which in turn gives us clean air and eventually a healthy environment for future generations," said Bakhtadze; "the civilized world has agreed that environmental protection and green policy are the main priority."
The Prime Minister encouraged Georgians to see the new environmental push as a "new lifestyle," and to focus on caring for nature and sharing responsibility for the natural world. Nature, he emphasized, gives people "clean air and eventually a healthy environment for future generations. When talking about ecology and environmental protection, taking specific steps against air pollution is especially important."
Georgia faces a severe air pollution problem, particularly in the capital, and "urgent solutions" are needed.
Bakhtadze spoke generally about his government's solutions, saying "Air protection policy has a special place in our renewed government program. This includes the introduction of regulations based on European and international practice, as well as implementing various important reforms. Steps have been taken against air pollution that will continue in the future as well,"
