Protesters Call for Resignation of KazTransGas Director
A demonstration will be held at the head office of KazTransGas to call for the resignation of the company’s general director.
The protest follows the gas explosion in a residential building in Didi Dighomi district in Tbilisi on the evening of 16 January. The incident killed 4, including a 4-year-old child, and injured 8.
KazTransGas is widely believed to be responsible for the incident. The explosion occurred just hours after KazTransGas employees checked the building after residents complained of smelling gas. The employees told the residents that the smell was paint.
Aleko Elisashvili, the organizer of the protest believes that both the government and KazTransGas have nothing to prevent gas-related incidents in Georgia.
Protesters are calling for management to be held accountable for the incident as well as leadership to be introduced in the company.
