Infrastructure Minister Sums up 2018 Activities
Maia Tskitishvili, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, summed up the activities carried out by the ministry last year.
At the presentation of the report on January 31, Tskitishvili claimed that the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure and its subordinate agencies spent GEL 1,661 million on infrastructural projects and carried out 1200 projects in 2018.
“We implemented more than 1200 projects in 2018, including construction of the longest, 1km, bridge, 2km tunnel, and the Gudauri-Kobi cableway. Of course, these are the projects we need to make our regions stronger. Most importantly, we are starting implementation of much larger projects in 2019,” she stated, adding that this year the ministry will start building 27 new schools and the rehabilitation of 83 others.
“Education is the priority for our government and, accordingly, we have planned many projects for the development of school infrastructure…Based on the requirements of the Ministry of Education, we are building small and large contingent schools. By 2020, up to 4,000 pupils will be able to study in new schools,” she said.
Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze also delivered a speech at the presentation, noting that all major infrastructural projects will be concluded by the end of 2022.
"We received a very important message and support a few days ago when the European Commission approved new programs for the development of the trans-European transport network, and Georgia has a great role in it. We will be able to develop infrastructure in Georgia together with our European partners in future, making Georgia more integrated with European systems,” he said.
The PM added that development of the infrastructure will be a priority in 2019 and in the following years beyond.
