Georgia at the Largest Culinary Exhibition in France
On January 26-30, the city of Lyon in France hosted Bocuse D'Or 2019, an international hospitality and food service exhibition. The largest gastronomic fest brought together 2984 exhibitors from all over the world, and Georgia was among them.
Georgian national dishes were displayed for the first time at this event, which was launched 30 years ago. The Georgian team, comprising 11 chefs and led by Levan Kobiashvili, aimed to mesmerize thousands of guests at the exhibition with the authentic tastes found in the Georgian cuisine, and establish the name of Georgia on the world’s gastronomic map.
There were various traditional dishes from the country’s different regions showcased at Bocuse D'Or 2019, including khinkali, khachapuri, chakapuli, elarji and others. Visitors had a chance to observe the preparation process of the courses, which was accompanied by an explanation of the brief history and the unique characteristics of each dish. Cooking was followed by degustation.
Guests at the event were also given an opportunity to get a taste of Georgian wine.
“We have become members of the international culinary family," said Deputy Head of the National Wine Agency, Davit Tkemaladze. "Professional chefs introduced Georgian cuisine to the visitors of Bocuse D'Or 2019”.
As a result of five days of hard work and much effort, the Georgian team received positive evaluations from gourmands from different countries.
