Insurance to Become Mandatory for Car Owners
Car owners in Georgia will soon be obliged to have civil liability insurance according to a new bill.
The insurance will cover their liability in case of causing harm to life, health, or the property of another person whilst driving.
The maximum and minimum yearly insurance premiums have been laid out in the draft law. Motorcycles with a 50 cm3 or under engine will pay from between 75 - 110 GEL, whilst insurance for cars (maximum weight 3,500) will be around 100 - 150 GEL annually. Buses with eight or more seats (excluding the drivers) will be charged 160 - 250 GEL.
Trucks that weigh over 3,500kg will have the highest insurance rates, at around 210-310 GEL, whilst agricultural vehicles will only cost 60-90 GEL to insure.
Parliament passed the changes to the “Compulsory Insurance of Civil Liability for Ownership of a Motor Vehicle in Georgia” law today.
