24 Georgian Wines Awarded at Japanese Contest

The National Wine Agency of Georgia has announced that 24 Georgian wines received awards at the 6th Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards 2019.

The wines received 2 double-gold, 15 gold, and 7 silver medals. Leading females in the wine industry judged 4326 commercially-produced wines from 34 countries around the world on 29 - 30 January. The results announced today.

“Winning such prestigious competitions will raise the awareness not only of privates companies but Georgian wine in general,” said the National Wine Agency.

Japan is a strategic market for Georgian wine. In 2018, Georgia exported over 212,000 bottles to Japan, a 37% increase compared to 2017.

The most prestigious award of the competition, the Diamond Trophy, will be decided from the double-gold winners on 5 March at the international FOODEX Japan 2019 exhibition.
