FM Zalkaliani Meets with UN High Commissioner for Refugees

Within the scope of his official visit to Geneva, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, David Zalkaliani held a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi.  

The significance of the involvement of the High Commissioner in the Geneva International Discussions was strongly accentuated at the meeting.

The projects implemented by the Government of Georgia for the protection of the rights of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), the improvement of their life conditions, and collaboration of Georgia with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees were highly appreciated at the meeting, the Foreign Ministry of Georgia reports.

The peace initiative of Georgia ‘Step for a Better Future’ was especially praised by Grandi. The meeting also included discussions regarding the significance of the inclusion of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for the efficient implementation of the peace initiatives in Georgia, and the current situation in the regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), occupied by Russia.

The Georgian side provided information regarding the grave security and human rights’ violations in the occupied territories of the country.
