Georgia Expresses Sorrow over Deadly Floods in Indonesia
Official Tbilisi has expressed sorrow over the deadly floods in Indonesia, which left at least 77 dead and hundreds injured.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveys its condolences to the government of the Republic of Indonesia and the families of disaster victims, wishing a speedy recovery to those who have been affected by the disaster,” the statement of the Georgian ministry reads.
Flash floods in Indonesia's eastern Papua province have killed at least 77 people, the disaster agency of the country said on March 18.
At least 60 people remain missing while more than 4,000 people have been forced from their homes, and some are sheltering in government offices.
Around 35 tourists are believed to be trapped after landslides hit the tourist island of Lombok, said a disaster agency official, adding that two others are presumed to be dead.
In January, floods killed at least 70 people on the island of Sulawesi, and heavy rain in West Java earlier in March displaced hundreds.
