The remains of seven Georgian citizens killed during the Georgian-Russian war in 2008 have been repatriated from the occupied region of Tskhinvali to Georgia, the State Security Service of Georgia reported on March 19.

The bodies were transferred to the Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Bureau and after following processing will be handed over to their families.

The graves from the cemetery were opened by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the vicinity of Tamarasheni village in the region of Tskhinvali in October 2017.

“The remains were examined and identified in an international laboratory in the city of Zagreb, Croatia”, reads the statement of the State Security Service of Georgia.
